Hi. I'm  whitecrow0. I'm a married mother of two middle-school boys; I'm fortysomething, but I often feel as though I'm fourteen. Many of my interests are listed below.I adore my dogs and cats, and I used to enjoy keeping fish before aquarium maintenance became unmanageable for me. I spend my weekdays in a comfy cubicle, though I wish I had more time and energy to cook, to make my home amazing, and to be an awesome parent for my boys. I also wish I had more time to read and write. I'm allergic to corn, which is in everything everywhere in the United States of America. I also have chronic pain resulting from damage done by a multiple herniated disc and arthritis, so I'm not as active as I'd like. I can be very quiet, shy, and uncertain. I can also be angry, bubbly, (clinically) depressed, dorky, (melo)dramatic, silly, and sometimes smart. I love to read urban fantasy fiction by authors such as Charles De Lint and Seanan McGuire. I also enjoy poetry, memoirs, and non-fiction about whatever subject strikes my fancy at the moment. My musical preferences through the years have included Bethany Curve, Duran Duran, Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, The Cure, The Pixies, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I currently listen to a lot of post-punk, shoegaze, and music from the 1940s; I also enjoy delta blues every once in a while. Influential television shows have been Battle of the Planets, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, China Beach, Connections, Cosmos, Highlander, House Hunters, and What Not to Wear. Meaningful movies would have to include the original Star Wars trilogy, The Crow, and the Harry Potter series. I have a soft spot for John Hughes movies and Empire Records. However, I tend to appreciate well-done dramas more than I do slapstick, low comedy, or special-effect driven action "blockbusters". I also enjoy the Golden Age of Hollywood. One of my biggest hopes is to be able to travel; my dream is a tour of Greece. I also want to visit Paris and London, and I would like to take my family to New York. I am particularly fond of the 1940s and adore vintage fashion from the late 1930s through the 1960s "mod" look. My favorite colors are lime green and cobalt blue. I enjoy visiting museums (art, history or science!), taking private spiritual time, taking pictures, sitting in window seats, shopping, gazing at tropical and saltwater aquariums, and attending cultural events such as the ballet. I'm drawn to birds (especially crows and owls), butterflies, foxes, grizzly bears, and tigers. I also have a fascination for evil eyes and hamsas and greek goddesses and gods. I get excited by and about thunderstorms and the epidemiology of certain diseases; I also have unrepentantly squooshy feelings for the internet, my smartphone, hot green tea, and sunflowers. I don't draw or write a lot; I don't knit or dance. My artistic outlet is usually my closet. It would also probably be my home, if I had the budget! I worry that I am tactless and that I share too much. I also worry that I'll bore you or that I won't know what to say should we talk. But I'd really like to make connections with people who can put up with my shenanigans and understand that they have touched my heart. +/- |
